Episode 28--The Crystalites
The villains in this one are Crystaline alien invaders, who want to turn Amzot into crystal for... reasons. Actually, based on what their ray guns do to the Herculoids, I'm guessing this meant they were going to encase the planet in crystal rather than literally transform it. That would then allow them to strip mine its resources at their convenience.
Another theory I have about the Crytalites is that their leaders are intelligent, but that their foot
soldiers are drones who are biologically programmed to obey simply orders such as "Destroy them all!" If they were capable of independent thought, then there's no way the "disguises" worn by Zandor, Gloop and Gleep would have worked. Zandor apparently knew this, otherwise he wouldn't have tried an otherwise dumb plan.
By the way, Gloop and Gleep have never been more awesome than they are in this episode. I especially love it when Gloop forms himself into a sort of armored car while Gleep is on top duel-wielding ray guns.
As for Amzot, we learn there is a coconut-like fruit that Tara calls "Corona Berries." It looks a lot like the coconut-like fruit that Dorno called Kono-nuts in an earlier episode. I'm adding Corona Berries to the list as a separate fruit, differing slightly in taste from the Kono-nuts. Sort of like strawberries compared to blueberries, I guess.
The big thing is that Zandor waits for night time before infiltrating the Crystalite ship. An early episode referred to Amzot's Dark Side, clearly implying that the planet is tidally locked. But this is the second time we've seen night time on what is presumably the Day Side.
I earlier theorized that Amzot is near a nebula, which occasionally blocks the planet's sun and causes a "night time." I'm still going with that. Zandor knows the timing of Amzot's orbit, so he knew one of the infrequent night times was coming.
Since the only new item, then, is the Corono Berries, I've added that to the summary posted in the June 12 entry about the Laser Lancers.
